'Manuscripta'

2011

– WdKA, Graduition, Graphic Design, Identity

Graduation assignment, in which the assignment was to create a complete identity for an event or festival. I chose Manuscripta, (for more info on the event see www.manuscripta.nl)

My designs sprouted from the literal meaning of 'Manuscript', being 'text written by hand'. By this definition, not a single book published at the Manuscripta fits this description. I did however see someting in the manual aspect of this, so I cut the logo out of linoleum myself.

After this I decided to use the Gutenberg Bible, widely accepted as the first printed book as a starting point. I placed the 'new text' over it, while still respecting the white space between the original text columns, creating unlikely hyphenations in the text and sentences.

Nearly all items in the identity follow this format. The identity includes a set of 5 posters, a timetable booklet, newspapers (print and digital), tickets and a blank book for writing your own manuscript.
